Philanthropy

BDG's corporate philosophy is that it's our obligation to give back to and become an active part of the communities in which we do business. As such, the principals and members of BDG are involved with and serve on the board of several local charities and community organizations. These are a few examples of the numerous charities and organizations we support.

Children's Medical Fund of New York (CMFNY) is a volunteer, non-profit organization devoted to helping support and equip Schneider Children's Hospital. Today, CMF holds the proud distinction of being the single largest contributor to Schneider Children's Hospital. The entire Blumenfeld family is actively involved with the organization. Together both BDG and the Blumenfeld family are one of the largest contributors of both time and money to the Children's Medical Fund.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $360 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.

Island Harvest's mission is to reduce food waste and end hunger on Long Island. Since 1992, Island Harvest has been serving as the bridge between those who have excess food and those who need it.a trained corps of dedicated volunteer's rescue surplus food from local restaurants and delis and collect anned and packaged foods from collection campaigns., which are then distributed to the hungry.

Swing for Kids is an annual Golf and Tennis Tournament to raise funds for the Arts Education programs at Tilles Center. Due to its growing success they have been able to regularly expand their services to Long Island's school districts and school children to inspire the children of Long Island with a professional arts education program.

The Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, an integral component of New York University Medical Center, is the world's first facility devoted entirely to rehabilitation medicine. Founded in 1948 by Dr. Howard A. Rusk, the Rusk Institute is the largest university-affiliated center for the treatment of adults and children with disabilities, as well as for research and training in rehabilitation medicine. Brad Blumenfeld serves on the Leadership Circle for Rusk.

The Nature Conservancy is a leading international, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the diversity of life on Earth. The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive

The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation facilitates bone marrow, blood stem cell and umbilical cord blood transplants for children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses. The Gift of Life is an associate donor registry of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and a participating member of the worldwide registry Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide. Gift of Life was established in 1991 as a donor recruitment organization to help save the life of leukemia patient Jay Feinberg. In 1995, one of the donors tested turned out to be Jay's match. Although it started as a grassroots effort to save one life, the campaign has facilitated transplants for hundreds of other patients also in need of donors.

The American Airpower Museum (AAM) at Republic Airport has flown its squadron of operational World War II aircraft for the past decade for the purpose of paying tribute to the men and women who have defended our freedoms. Together, the AAM and Blumenfeld Development Group allow visitors to come face to face with the sights, sounds, smells and images of an era when civilization itself was in peril. Breaking through the distractions of a digital era, the museum's iconic aircraft ensure a new generation of Americans understand what was required to defend, preserve and protect their freedoms.
